Successful Catheter Ablation in a Neonate with Supraventricular Tachycardia
Abstract

Tachyarrhythmias in the neonatal period accounts for approximately 5% of the total arrhythmias. The most common type is Supraventricular Tachycardia (SVT) followed by atrial tachycardia with an ectopic origin [1]. On the other hand, the most common reported dysrhythmia in the fetal life is Atrioventricular Reentry tachycardia (AVRT) and atrial flutter [2]. In most cases of tachyarrhythmias, pharmacological therapies and sometimes electrical cardioversion maybe sufficient to terminate arrhythmias with a good control later on. This report presents a case of a 30 days old neonate weighing 3Kg who presented with a drug refractory SVT which led to a severe hemodynamic instability. He eventually underwent emergency radiofrequency ablation which successfully terminated the arrhythmia.
